Beverages

Coffee, cocktails, and cold pours worth making for company — one with bourbon, one without.

Tennessee Coffee Old Fashioned

A cold-brew twist on the classic old fashioned, built for a slow porch evening.

  1. Combine

Add the bourbon, cold brew, maple syrup, and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.

  2. Stir, don't shake

Stir for about 20 seconds until well-chilled — shaking would over-dilute and cloud the drink.

  3. Strain and garnish

Strain over a single large ice cube in a rocks glass. Express the orange peel over the top to release its oils, then drop it in.

Kitchen noteBrew the coffee extra strong and let it cool completely first — warm coffee will melt your ice too fast and water down the drink.

Hibiscus & Ginger Iced Tea

Tart, ruby-red, and lightly spiced — a non-alcoholic pour that still feels like an occasion.

  1. Steep the base

Bring the water to a boil, then remove from heat. Add the hibiscus flowers and ginger and steep for 10 minutes.

  2. Strain

Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract all the color and flavor.

  3. Sweeten

While the tea is still warm, stir in the honey or agave until fully dissolved. Stir in the lime juice.

  4. Chill and serve

Refrigerate until fully chilled, at least 1 hour. Serve over ice, garnished with fresh mint.

Kitchen noteDried hibiscus is often sold as "flor de jamaica" at Latin American grocers — it's the same flower, usually cheaper there than the tea aisle.
